HOUSTON – After lab results came back negative on Thursday, the University of Houston says the school's tap water is safe for consumption.
The University had recommended the public not drink the tap water after the school received reports of discoloration.
On Tuesday, the water was reported to be a yellowish brown color.
All around campus water fountains were taped off and restaurants, including Starbucks, were either closed or on limited menus because of the discolored water.
Water tanks were set up around campus. Water bottles were also passed around and food trucks were brought in.
The University says dining services and the affected retail establishments on campus are expected to resume full operations by Friday morning.
There is no word on what caused the discoloration.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: officials have confirmed that water on campus is safe for use. Safety comes first, thank you for your patience. 🐾 pic.twitter.com/59I4I99MCr— UniversityofHouston (@UHouston) September 22, 2016
