HOUSTON -- A crash involving injuries blocked all northbound main lanes of Highway 288, the South Freeway, on Wednesday morning.

All inbound traffic was diverted off the freeway at U.S. 59. for an hour starting around 6:30 a.m., according to Houston TranStar. A traffic backup of four to five miles was reported.

Aerial views from Air 11 showed a sport utility vehicle up against a concrete barrier of the freeway. An EMS crew was working to remove a patient from the SUV.

Officials reopened the freeway just after 7:30 a.m.

A second crash occurred at the same site when a passing car struck the back of a parked fire truck, according to TranStar. It was not known if there were any injuries resulting from the second crash.
