UNT student found shot to death inside car in Corinth

CORINTH, Texas -- Law enforcement officials are investigating the murder of a 21-year-old University of North Texas student who was found shot inside a car in Corinth over the weekend.

UNT has identified the victim as Amanda Clairmont, a senior business major at the school.

Clairmont was found unresponsive with gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in a vacant parking lot in the 5700 block of I-35E Sunday at about 6 a.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Our deepest, heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends of UNT student Amanda Clairmont," UNT President Neal Smatresk said on Tuesday. "Our hearts are heavy with the news of the tragic loss of her life."

The Texas Rangers and Denton County Sheriff's Department are investigating her death as a homicide.
