The owner of Miracle Mattress, the San Antonio store at the center of a controversial 9/11-themed commercial, says the store will re-open soon with new employees.
In a letter announcing the move, owner Mike Bonanno apologized repeatedly for the "disrespectful and offensive social media advertisement" and the "deserved national outrage" it caused.
"We believe our best path forward is to re-open our doors as soon as possible, following the hiring of new staff and training," he said. "When we open, we will do so with a renewed focus on community support and humility.
The advertisement spoke of a "9/11 Twin Towers Sale" and showed two employees knocking over two large towers of twin mattresses.
Bonanno's letter addressed 9/11 victims, saying: "We are truly sorry and regret the pain we have caused. We ask for forgiveness."
He also said he regrets the negative attention the ad caused for the city of San Antonio.
"We are sorry for putting our community at the forefront of a national disgrace," he said. "We ask for forgiveness and an opportunity to earn support in the future."
