Ticket dismissed for driver in crash that killed APD officer

AUSTIN - The ticket issued to the driver involved in the wreck that killed Austin Police Department Senior Officer Amir Abdul-Khaliq has been dismissed.

Ana Prado was issued a class c misdemeanor citation for failing to yield to a peace officer after she was involved in a crash with Officer Abdul-Khaliq while he was driving a motorcycle in a funeral procession September 1. Abdul-Khaliq died three days later.

Sources tell KVUE that the citation was dropped as a legal strategy in case prosecutors wish to file higher charges against Prado in coming days. Had she pleaded guilty and paid the fine for the ticket, authorities fear that would have led to double jeopardy, preventing further charges in the case.
