Thousands of dollars in equipment stolen from San Antonio church

Church robbery

SAN ANTONIO - A local church is leaning on its faith and prayers in hopes of catching the person or people responsible for stealing thousands of dollars worth of equipment vital to its ministry.

Mighty Fortress Christian Fellowship on the southwest side, takes pride in the spiritual production it puts together for its congregation.

“We use a lot of our power points, we use a lot of videos, sound equipment,” Lead Pastor Sammy Lopez said.

But on Friday, a lot of the equipment used to help spread the church’s message was stolen.

“We had our iMac right here, we had our digital sound boards, we had our laptops, all of our cameras are gone,” said Lopez, as he pointed out where the equipment was stolen from.

Surveillance video shows a man walking up to the church Friday afternoon scoping the place out. In fact, he walked inside and snooped around while church workers were occupied in a separate room.

The suspect went back to the church a few hours later and started removing things out of the sanctuary stealing about $10,000 worth of equipment.

It’s a lot of money for the congregation of about 400 people. They’re hoping someone will watch the surveillance video and recognize the person or people stealing from the church.

It’s also become a real life example of adversity and good overcoming evil.

“Whatever they took, they could’ve taken the chairs, but nothing would’ve stopped us Sunday morning from worshipping God and continuing to move on forward,” Lopez said.

The pastors at the church said that they will be praying for the suspect or suspects. In the meantime, other churches and parishioners have stepped up and are helping where possible, lending equipment to Mighty Fortress Christian Fellowship.
