Tapatio Springs Resort plans multi-million dollar rebuild after massive fire

The owners of Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort, including George Strait, plan an even bigger and better facility after a devastating fire ravaged the clubhouse almost two weeks ago.

BOERNE, Texas -- The Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort, partially owned by George Strait, may still be smoldering from a massive fire nearly two weeks ago but big plans are in the works.

General Manager Caleb Dubose says they’re working with a well-known San Antonio architect to rebuild the multi-million dollar clubhouse.

"We want to be one of the best clubhouses,” Dubose said. He says the plans include expanding the square footage of the building, taking advantage of the beautiful views and more modern décor.

Dubose estimates the rebuild will cost more than $10 million.

On Nov. 4, Dubose says staff smelled something burning and discovered a fire in the attic of the clubhouse.

“We immediately called 911 and evacuated the building," Dubose said.

He says about 30 people were inside when the fire broke out and everyone made it out safely.

The fire ravaged the clubhouse leaving it a total loss, estimated at more than $5 million.

Kendall County Fire officials believe an electrical problem started the fire.

Despite the tragedy, employees have not been laid off, according to Dubose.

The rebuilding process is expected to take about 16 months and until further notice events have been canceled or relocated. The resort is only partially open.
