Deputy's daughter killed in Trinity ISD van crash

The van stopped to pick up a child when a pickup truck rear-ended the van.

TRINITY, Texas -- A 7-year-old girl was killed and several others were injured after a truck slammed into a Trinity ISD school van Thursday morning.

According to DPS, 17-year-old Micah Brock crashed her 2008 Ford pickup into the back of the bus on FM 1893 in Trinity County. The van had stopped to pick up a child just before 7:30 a.m.

The little girl was rushed to East Texas Medical Center but doctors weren't able to save her. Authorities later confirmed the girl was the daughter of Trinity County Sheriff's Deputy David Magness.

Seven other children, the van driver and two other children in the pickup truck were taken to the hospital. All of them have now been treated and released.

DPS is still investigating the cause of the crash but the sheriff says he believes the young driver was blinded by sunlight and didn't see that the van was stopped.
