Residents of College Station's Eastgate neighborhood weigh in on water main overhaul

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - More than a dozen people from the Eastgate neighborhood  met with the city Wednesday evening to learn more about a water and wastewater rehabilitation project for their neighborhood.

Eastgate, which is just east of City Hall, is one of the city's older neighborhoods. It's recently seen water main breaks and blockages.

According to the city's plan, the new water mains and wastewater mains will stay in the same location as the previous ones. However, some residents fear the construction could affect the roads.

"What really needs to happen in the neighborhood are a lot of work on the streets and this project's not going to address that, unfortunately," said resident Hugh Lindsay. "And this is just going to make it worse."

The city says a contractor will fix any portions of the roadways that are damaged by the construction. The design, will be complete next year and construction will wrap in 2018. The cost is $4.5 million.
