Nearly 9 pounds of cocaine found in Beaumont traffic stop

A Houston man and woman are in federal custody after officers say they found 8.8 pounds of cocaine in their car on Thursday.

According to Beaumont Police Officer Haley Morrow, the police department’s Criminal Interdiction Unit stopped Emily Villareal on Interstate 10 near the Goodyear plant west of Beaumont.  They say they found the cocaine hidden in the vehicle.

Hugo Garcia, 27, and Emily Villareal, 20, both of Houston, were placed under arrest.

Police say the street value of the cocaine is around $100,000.
