AUSTIN - Nearly 50 people were treated for K2-related symptoms in downtown Austin since Friday afternoon, Austin-Travis County EMS said.
EMS initially said at least 12 patients were treated and transported from Sixth Street and Neches Street since around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Saturday, another 37 people were hospitalized.
Updates provided late Sunday evening added 17 more patients to the growing list. The patients were transported to various hospitals, and EMS said an unknown number of people refused treatment.
K2 is commonly referred to as “Spice,” “Kush” or even “Synthetic marijuana.” K2 is really a product that has been sprayed with a chemical compound that mimics the effects of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana.
