Austin ISD middle school principal arrested on solicitation charge

AUSTIN - The principal of an Austin ISD middle school was arrested Monday morning on an online solicitation of a minor charge, the district said.

Austin ISD said Burnet Middle School Principal David Dean has been placed on administrative leave following the arrest.

According to KVUE's partners at the Austin American-Statesman, AISD police assisted Montgomery County law enforcement to arrest Dean. Online records at the Travis County Jail state he is being held on $70,000 bond.

In a letter to the families of Burnet students, Superintendent Paul Cruz said AISD police were notified by the Attorney General's office and Montgomery County District Attorney's office, but could not provide further details since it is an ongoing investigation.

In a letter sent home to families (available to read in full below), families are invited to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. on May 17 in the school’s cafeteria. “The meeting will include information on the plan for campus leadership,” the letter said.

AISD officials tell KVUE they do not believe any of the district's students were involved in this alleged crime.
