Man shot, killed in Dallas after allegedly stealing lottery tickets

Man killed after allegedly stealing lottery tickets

DALLAS -- A man who had allegedly just stolen several lottery tickets from an Oak Lawn convenience store was shot and killed a short time later, although investigators aren’t sure if the two incidents are related.

Just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, police received a call about a shooting in the 4300 block of Maple Avenue. Officers arrived to find the unidentified man dead in front of a nightclub. He had been shot in a nearby alley on Hondo Avenue and had walked several blocks before collapsing.

Shortly before the shooting call came out, the victim was involved in a separate incident at the nearby 7-Eleven on Maple Avenue where he had gotten into an argument with the clerk and had allegedly stolen several lottery tickets.

It is still unclear what led to the second altercation in the alley, or how many suspects may be involved.

Police had originally said that a group of agitated customers had witnessed the incident at the 7-Eleven and had followed the victim to a nearby alley to confront him which led to the shooting, but now DPD says they are not sure exactly what happened and are still investigating.

At least 128 people have been murdered in the city of Dallas this year.
