AUSTIN - A federal judge has dismissed a civil lawsuit against South By Southwest and traffic planners for the deadly 2014 festival.
The widow, child and mother of a bicyclist killed at SXSW will not be able to move forward with their civil case. The family of Steven Craenmehr says the festival should have anticipated the danger because 153 people were hit by cars during previous SXSW festivals.
Judge Lee Yeakel decided the incidents were neither recent or frequent enough to be anticipated by SXSW or the traffic planner.
Craenmahr was one of the three people killed when then 21-year-old Rashad Owens was fleeing from police and plowed through barricades into a crowd of people attending the festival.
