Horse dies after being shot in north Beaumont

BEAUMONT - Beaumont Animal Services is investigating the shooting of a horse on the city’s north side.

According to a statement issued authorities Thursday, a Beaumont Animal Control Officer was called to the 1000 block of Pollard on Monday to check on an injured horse.  The officer found a one year old Buckskin filly with what appeared to be 22 caliber bullet holes in 2 places on the right rear buttocks of the horse.

The person who called police said the horse may have been shot on Sunday.

The horse was loaded onto a trailer and taken to have a veterinarian examine its injuries.  The vet told investigators the horse’s colon was damaged when it was shot.  The horse had a leak in its bowel on right side and was in a lot of pain.  The horse later died from toxic shock death.

Beaumont Animal Services is seeking information about the person responsible for this senseless act of abuse, and death of this horse.

If you have information about this or any other crime, contact Southeast Texas Crime Stoppers at 409-833-TIPS.
