Former Midway ISD Principal killed in crash on I-35

Midway ISD is mourning the loss of a former principal.

WACO - A former Midway ISD Principal died Monday night in a crash on I-35 just south of West.

Sharron Zachry, 65, died at the scene after the truck her husband was driving rolled over at mile marker 354.

Texas DPS said Patrick Zachry, 64, was driving south in a Ford F-150 when he drove off the highway and the truck rolled toward the frontage road.

Patrick was taken to Baylor, Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in stable condition.

Midway ISD put a statement on its Twitter page about the tragedy.

According to the Midway ISD website, Sharron Zachry served as principal at Hewitt Elementary, Midway High School and Castleman Creek Elementary School.

Patrick Zachry graduated from Richland High School in Waco and pitched for the Cincinnati Reds in the 1970s.

He started and won games for the 1976 World Series Champion team, nicknamed the 'Big Red Machine.' He was also named Co-Rookie of the Year with San Diego Padres pitcher, Butch Metzger.

Zachry also played for the New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies.

D.L. Wilson with Texas DPS said Tuesday morning the cause of the crash remained under investigation.

According to Midway ISD, Sharron Zachry's Visitation has been set for Friday evening at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, exact time TBD. The family has requested the funeral be held at the Midway PAC on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m.

The Ledbetters have also set a visitation for Friday at Harris Creek Baptist Church from 6 to 8 p.m. A graveside service is planned for Saturday for immediate family only.
