Ennis Police shoot, kill man during traffic stop

ENNIS, TEXAS -

An Ennis Police Officer shot and killed a man late Monday in a church parking lot after he allegedly struck a squad car attempting to leave the scene of a traffic stop.

The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. in the parking lot of The Way, The Truth & the Life Church on N Kaufman Street, where the victim had stopped after being pulled over for an undisclosed traffic violation.

At least one witness on the scene claims the man was intoxicated but that the situation did not warrant deadly force.

A small crowd including friends and family gathered at the scene but no incidents were reported and no arrests were made.

It is not known how many officers were involved or how many shots were fired. The Texas Rangers are taking over the investigation which is standard procedure in Texas.

The name of the officer(s) and victim have not been released.
