Critics say bill would out students to parents

A Texas state senator has introduced a bill that critics say would out gay students to their parents.

Texas State Senator Konni Burton introduced a bill that critics say would out gay students to their parents.

The bill would entitle parents to all written records held by the school district requiring their child’s physical, psychological or emotional well-being.

The LGBT community worries those records could include the child’s sexual orientation and subject them to abuse at home.

They say some communication between students and educators should be protected.

The bill would be considered during the next legislative session, which begins on Jan. 10, 2017.
