Border Hispanics weigh in on Trump's visit to Mexico

Trump in Mexico

BORDER TEAM -- It’s the top story on the airwaves, the front page of Mexican newspapers, and the main topic of conversation among Hispanics living on the border.

Border crossers Andres Ortiz and his buddy Jorge Barron think the meeting between Donald Trump and Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto is a waste of time.

“I don’t know why trump is paying Mexicans a visit,” Barron said. “I believe it’s just about getting votes. It’s too late to regret what he’s said since the start of his campaign.”

For Martha Rocha, who commutes between the two countries, she said Trump’s rhetoric about undocumented Mexicans is hard to forgive.

“He has been very clear from the beginning about being against Latinos. I hope people don’t get fooled,” Rocha said.

Commentators on Spanish radio are heard discussing the news on the airwaves. Nora Alvarez and her children listen closely to what they had to say.

Alvarez agreed with those who feel offended by the Mexican president’s invitation. She hopes Trump won’t dare insult Mexicans while he’s there.

“Otherwise, I honestly can’t imagine what it could cause,” Alvarez said.

Those KENS 5 Border Team spoke to along the border said they will be tuning in to Trump's policy speech on immigration with hopes that his visit with President Pena Nieto influences his message to American voters.
