LA MARQUE, Texas – The La Marque Independent School District will officially be no more.
The Texas Education Agency informed the La Marque ISD school board that the district will be annexed by another district after failing to meet standards for academic and financial accountability, TEA spokesperson Gene Acuna said.
TEA Commissioner Michael Williams, who informed the school board, hasn't said which district will annex La Marque or when it will take place.
The news comes after the TEA revoked the district's accreditation and removed the district's superintendent and school board.
The TEA agreed in April to keep the district open until the next round of academic and financial ratings were released. The agency originally wanted to close the district this summer.
