The suspect was shot and killed in a shopping center parking lot during a shootout with the marshal.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - Harris County deputies are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in northwest Harris County.

A U.S. Marshal shot and killed a suspect in the parking lot of a shopping center in the 1200 block of E. Airtex.

It happened during a shootout between the marshal, a TDCJ officer and the suspect.

The officers were working with the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and wanted to question the man about a robbery and assault.

They followed a car he was in to the Airtex Plaza Shopping Center around 2 p.m. Friday.

"They saw movement in the rear of the vehicle. At that point, they walked toward the vehicle and as they approached the vehicle they saw the suspect exit the vehicle with a weapon," said Cedric Collier with the Harris County Sheriff's Office. "He pointed the weapon at the officers and the officers discharged their weapon."

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman driving the car and a child in the backseat weren't hurt.

Neither were either of the officers.

The suspect's name has not been released.
