HOUSTON -– Some areas east of Houston received more than 4 inches of rain in less than 24 hours, causing minor street flooding early Wednesday.

Houston TranStar reported high water along the East Freeway at Cedar Lane near Channelview. Freeway cameras showed all mainlanes were open as of 9 a.m. but one inbound lane was covered in water, slowing traffic.

The Channelview area received about 3 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Street flooding was also likely in Baytown where 4.16 inches of rain was reported as of 9:15 a.m.

Later in the morning, flooding was reported on JFK Boulevard approaching Bush Airport, delaying some travelers.

There's a 50-percent chance of precipitation throughout the day, but KHOU 11 News Meteorologist Chita Johnson says the rain will start to decrease later tonight heading into tomorrow.
