New flip flop fashion trend
05:52 PM CDT on Friday, May 19, 2006
Flip flops are not just for the beach anymore. A houston woman is turning the casual shoe into hot fashion accessories. In fact, her “Klip Flops” are seen all over from backyards to college campus. The colorful sandals of sorts are causing ladies of all ages to flop over some cold hard cash. “You can wear them with anything,” said Brittany Carter. “I wear them everywhere,” said Kendall Holderread. The sandals are different because the straps clip in and clip out. They’re basic flip flops with interchangeable straps. They are the brain child of Pam Kurtilek. “I originally thought I wanted heels..I love heels with interchangeable straps and then someone made a comment their daughter had 30 pair of flip flops and I thought that’s when you need interchange able straps.” Kurtilek’s got the idea in 2003. Her first pair was made from a regular old flip flop and a telephone wire..something just like the straps that could easily connect and disconnect. “You take the correct strap you stick it through the opening till it fits all the way into the bottom receptacle then you take a coin and turn it until it clicks then you know you got it in all the way,” said Kurtilek. The sandals are sold online. You can design them and choose from eight different base colors and close to 80 different straps. You can buy a base and as many straps as you want. To keep them clean all you need is soap and water.
