Rosa Flores' 11 News report

SAN LEON, Texas -- Hurricane Ike swept through San Leon and left many of its residents homeless.  Some people live in trailers, others moved back into their homes without removing the damp walls.

Pastor Bob Gibson from San Leon Community Church holds church service in a church made out of plastic walls.  The church qualified for FEMA’s blue tarp walls, and not only does the entire outside of the church have plastic walls, the inside doors are also made out of plastic.

But nothing seems to stop the congregation from gathering and helping the residents of San Leon.  The church fed thousands of people for the three months following the hurricane.  Today, Pastor Bob says the church feeds the community every Friday.

Call it a miracle or call it chance, but Pastor Bob got a call from God’s Pit Crew, an organization that travels around the country helping people, wanting to help the church rebuild.  The group plans to rebuild the San Leon Community Church in 5 days.  11 News This Morning plans to be back in San Leon to tell the story.
