VICTORIA, Texas—Two children who were missing from Missouri City were found safe in Victoria Tuesday.

According to police, Jadante Griffin, 5, and Israel Griffin, 1, were taken from their grandfather’s home by their mother over the weekend.

The grandfather has court-mandated custody of the kids.

He said the children’s mother, LaQuanda Williams Griffin, 29, has a history of mental illness.

Missouri City police worked with officers in Victoria, Texas, to set up surveillance of several of Griffin’s family members.

Victoria police also questioned the family members, who said they had seen Griffin at a local hotel.

When Griffin walked out of the hotel overnight, police took her in for questioning.

Griffin was eventually released, but the children were taken into custody.

Missouri City police sent a unit to Victoria to bring the kids back to their grandfather early Tuesday morning.

It was unclear what, if any, charges would be filed against the mother.
