KHOU.com staff report

HOUSTON -- A suspect arrested in a carjack killing earlier this week has now been linked to the October murder of a Friendswood man, according to Houston police.

HPD

David Van Collins

David Van Collins now faces two charges of capital murder.

He was arrested Wednesday and charged with the shooting death of Daniel Dewayne Wheeler, 31.

A person looking for a lost dog last Sunday stumbled upon Wheeler's body in the 6900 block of East Orem.

He had been shot several times before his body was dumped in the grass under a bridge.

Wheeler was last seen Friday at a restaurant at West Oaks Mall. His wife had reported him missing.

Homicide detectives decided to question Collins about the October murder of a Friendswood man whose body had been dumped in the same location.

Like Wheeler, that victim's car had been stolen.

Investigators say Collins has confessed to both murders.

Collins was on parole for a carjacking/robbery from 2003.
