Metro's fare hike starts today

HOUSTON -- For the first time in 14 years, bus and rail passengers will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets for a ride.

Metro's fare hike started Sunday.
The cost is now a $1.25 for a one-way trip. It used to be a $1.
Park and Ride commuters will pay up to a $1 more, depending on how far they travel.
Metro officials say high diesel and other operating expenses are to blame for the raise.
