Rumbo to focus on Web in San Antonio, Valley
02:38 PM CDT on Thursday, October 9, 2008
SAN ANTONIO -- The Spanish-language weekly newspaper Rumbo has suspended its print editions in San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley.
But it plans to double its circulation in Houston. Monica Lozano is senior vice president of newspaper for New York-based ImpreMedia. She says Rumbo will maintain a Web presence in San Antonio and the Valley and would post some local content from freelance writers.
Lozano cited the economy as a reason for the reorganization and noted that “advertisers, consumers and readers” are going to digital media.
Lozano said some employees in the offices closing down will move to Houston, where the circulation will be doubled October 31st.
Rumbo was distributing 50,000 copies in Houston and 25,000 each in San Antonio and the Valley with a staff of less than 75. ImpreMedia bought Rumbo in December 2007 from Meximerica Media.
