Burglaries in one part of town are down thanks to a recent crackdown.

Houston Police joined several law enforcement agencies to carry out the crackdown.
In southwest Houston there was a 54 percent drop in residential burglaries in the past four months.
The area affected is roughly bound by Highway 288 to the east, Fondren to the west, Main to the north and McHard to the south.
In September, officers noticed a sharp rise in burglaries in the area.
To fight the crime, local police agencies put more officers on the streets.
“More than 25 burglars, those were suspects, who were in the process of committing burglaries were arrested,” said HPD Chief Harold Hurtt. “We’ve sent a very strong message to the crooks in that area, that is District 16. We’ll send that same message to the burglars who are burglarizing homes and businesses who are committing crimes in the Houston, Harris County and Fort Bend County areas. You are our target, and we’re coming to get you.”
There are plans to take this crime initiative to other parts of Houston.
