Houston prepares for Gustav
06:25 PM CDT on Friday, August 29, 2008
HOUSTON—Emergency officials in Houston are on high alert just in case Gustav heads our way.
The Office of Emergency Management is now being staffed around the clock.
Officials there and at other emergency centers across this part of the state are updating the state on their individual plans.
Those agencies are also communicating with the National Weather Service for updates on Gustav’s track.
Here in Houston, workers were on the phone looking for volunteers within different departments to work over the course of this long weekend.
At 12 p.m. on Friday, the national guard will leave Austin and head to Houston to set up a ground base for operations.
