HOUSTON -- Steady downpours made for a very tough commute for drivers in southwest Houston on Thursday. So much so that roads along Bissonnet and Beechnut were barely passable, and a gas station had its pumps partially submerged.
At one point, water was as deep as a foot to 1 1/2 feet deep. 11 News Chief Meteorologist Gene Norman said that the Sharpstown area of southwest Houston recorded about 2.5 inches of rain in less than an hour, while nearby in Bellaire about an inch fell.
Harris County and a portion of Fort Bend County were put under a flash flood warning that was lifted at about 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The upper air system, which was responsible for Thursday’s flooding across sections of Southeast Texas, continues to drift away from the state. Although the atmosphere is still rich with Gulf moisture, rain chances will begin to move downward to more of our typical summer showers.
With less rain and more sunshine, afternoon temperatures will once again move back into the warm 90s.
