Ruptured valve likely caused Goodyear blast
12:00 AM CDT on Thursday, August 21, 2008
HOUSTON -- Federal investigators think a ruptured valve led to a fatal explosion at the Goodyear plant in southeast Houston two months ago.
The blast killed plant supervisor Gloria McGinnis. Her body was found hours after the incident in some rubble after at first plant officials thought everyone had made it out safe.
Seven people were injured in the blast.
Investigators with the U.S. Chemical Safety Board said a ruptured heat exchanger is likely what led to the explosions. The board said it is continuing its investigation to uncover the root cause of the blast.
