Mother kills child in drunk driving accident
07:05 PM CDT on Saturday, August 16, 2008
HOUSTON -- Police say a mother was drunk when she caused an accident that killed her six-year-old daughter.
Early this morning a Ford Explorer went off the road and hit a tree near Bush Intercontinental Airport.
It took firefighters nearly half an hour to pry the mother and daughter out of the SUV. They were both taken to Memorial Hermann hospital where the daughter later died.
An airport security guard was traveling behind the s-u-v and saw the whole thing.
"It wasn't as much as swerving. Basically she just veered off and went straight into a tree. She was traveling in her lane and she just all of the sudden --wham!" said Henry Frazier, airport security guard.
Investigators say the child's mother had a blood alcohol level about three times the legal limit.
Charges are pending.
