Kidnapping suspect seeks custody of kids, she allegedly took

HOUSTON—The Houston woman accused of kidnapping five children filed paperwork Monday to get sole custody of the kids.
Rhonda Tavey had been caring for the children who, along with their mother, evacuated New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina.
Tavey claims she took the children away to protect them from their real mother who Tavey claims is unfit.
Investigators say they couldn’t find any evidence to support Tavey’s claims and ordered the kids be returned to their mother, Erica Alphonse.
Right now, the children are staying with relatives in Houston while CPS investigates.
