HOUSTON -- Former Harris County Commissioner Jim Fonteno will be laid to rest in Humble Monday.
He died last week at the age of 81.
Fonteno served as commissioner for 28 years.
During his seven terms from 1974-2002, Fonteno created programs for the elderly and young people, and he also started 35 parks.
Some consider his programs for the elderly a model for the entire country.
The courthouse annex and a post office have been named in his honor.
Fonteno’s son said his dad died from complications of Parkinson’s.
