Girlfriend arrested in man's stabbing death
09:23 AM CDT on Tuesday, June 24, 2008
LA MARQUE — The girlfriend of a man found stabbed to death with a butcher knife last week was charged Monday morning in his slaying.
Cheryl Renee Lett, 28, was charged with murder and is being held on a $100,000 bond in the Galveston County jail.
Lett allegedly told investigators that stabbing her boyfriend, Craig Dwayne Curry, was an accident stemming from an argument about his plans to go to Dallas the morning of the attack, La Marque police Sgt. Dennis Macik said.
Police arrested Lett at her mother’s Hitchcock home a week after the fatal stabbing that took place at the couple’s home, 107 Porter St.
Police had been out to the house before for domestic disturbances between the two, Macik said.
Lett called 911 and asked for an ambulance at 5:40 a.m. June 16, telling dispatchers her boyfriend had been stabbed, Macik said.
When police arrived, officers found a trail of blood leading from the driveway, where they believed the stabbing occurred, into the house.
Lett didn’t allow officers into the house until they got a search warrant, hours after the stabbing. Once inside, they found a butcher knife they suspect was used in the attack hidden, Macik said.
