HOUSTON -- Three postal employees have been arrested for theft and/or delay of mail.
Erica Fuller, 27, LaShonda Dixon Gordon, 38, both of Houston, and Betty Young, 49, of Hempstead, Texas, were each charged in unrelated cases.
Gordon is charged with two counts of mail theft stemming from a complaint from a postal customer in November of 2005.
A year-long investigation ultimately resulted in the recovery of stolen items including Netflix DVDs, Blockbuster DVDs, Gamefly DVDs and a $50 Foley’s gift card.
Gordon began her employment with USPS as a mail handler May 24, 1997. She has resigned and faces a maximum penalty of five years and/or a $250,000 fine on each count of the indictment.
Fuller was arrested for delay and obstruction of mail.
She was indicted and charged with two counts of delay of mail resulting from an investigation into the recovery of 815 pieces of mail found in a trash dumpster located outside a convenience store on the 11100 block of West Hardy Street, Houston, Texas.
If convicted, Fuller faces a maximum penalty of five years and/or a $250,000 fine on each count of the indictment.
Young, a contract custodian with the USPS, was arrested for theft of mail May 13, 2008.
She was charged with three counts of mail theft after a complaint about missing mail from a customer.
The customer reported having placed a greeting card containing a $100 Wal-Mart gift card in the collection slot located inside the lobby of the Hempstead Main Post Office.
Further investigation resulted in Young being charged with the Wal-Mart card theft, as well as two $10 Target gift cards.
If convicted, Young faces a maximum penalty of five years and/or a $250,000 fine on each count of the indictment.
Young began her employment with the USPS as a contract custodian Jan. 12, 2002. In that position, Young’s job duties did not entail handling the mail.
