Regular unleaded gas tops $4 in Houston

02:06 PM CDT on Monday, May 26, 2008

KHOU.com staff report

HOUSTON—You were warned, and now it’s happened: Gas hit the $4 mark in Houston overnight.

The proof? A sign at a Shell gas station on Richmond and Chimney Rock selling regular unleaded for $4.04.

Fortunately, that’s well above the Houston average.

Monday morning, the average cost of regular unleaded in the city was $3.80 a gallon.

The state average is $3.82.

Though high, both of those are less than the national average, which is $3.94.
