Fishermen get stuck on Lake Houston Dam
05:21 PM CDT on Wednesday, May 21, 2008
HARRIS COUNTY -- A couple of fishermen were sweating it out Wednesday morning when their small boat got stuck on the Lake Houston Dam.
The fishing boat teetered precariously over the dam for about half an hour.
Someone spotted them and alerted the HFD Lake Patrols.
A patrol crew rescued the two men, then towed the boat away from the dam.
The men were not hurt, but they were cited for getting too close to the dam. That fine could be up to $200.
A number of experienced boaters, like Monty Hanson, think the dam should be marked with more buoys. “It’s supposed to be clearly marked but we never get close enough to worry about it. But there are people that get close enough and go fishing.”
The City of Houston determines how many buoys should be out on the water. They say they have an adequate number on the lake.
