Astrodome's future still unsure

More than 40 years ago, the Astrodome was the envy of professional sports.
It was a marvel of stadium design and served as home to Houston’s favorite sons.

The Dome is just a shell of its former self now and it's future is uncertain.
But a new proposal could breathe new life into the Eighth Wonder of the World.
The county attorney has signed off on a proposed $400 million hotel development.
Like a previous proposal, it calls for more than 1,000 hotel rooms to be built inside the Astrodome.
The plans call for preserving the Dome’s shell.
One of the biggest obstacles redeveloping the Dome is to avoid interfering with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo or the Houston Texans next door.
“Until we get input from the rodeo and Texans, there’s more work to be done,” said Harris County attorney Mike Stafford.
Rodeo officials say they haven’t seen the latest proposal.
They say any development must not hurt the rodeo’s ability to put on a show.
Even if all sides sign off on a deal, Harris County Commissioners will have the final say on redeveloping the dome.
The question now is if developers have enough money for the project.
