Houston's Key Middle School to stay open

05:25 PM CDT on Tuesday, May 13, 2008

KHOU.com staff report

HOUSTON -- The Houston Independent School District says Key Middle School will stay open despite continuing problems with moisture.

The district recently spent $3 million removing mold and renovating the school after dozens of teachers and students got sick.

But some people will tell you that the main cause of the problem was not fixed.

Experts say every window in the school needs to be replaced.

“Until you replace the windows and stop the outside flow of air into the building no amount of mechanical improvements is going to fix the problem,” said HISD Superintendent Abe Saavedra.

Those windows will be replaced, and the school will get a new air conditioning system.

The changes will be paid for with a bond approved by voters in November.
