We can only guess how the children felt when they were removed from the polygamist ranch in Eldorado, but Houston doctor Bruce Perry has a pretty good idea.

“I'm pretty sure I'll find a bunch kids who are quite unsure about how to act and react,” Perry told 11 News.

When it comes to sensitive situations with children, Perry is in high demand.

He travelled with Oprah Winfrey to counsel the students abused at her school in South Africa. And he worked with young girls abused at the Branch Davidians compound by David Koresh.

“He had sexual relationships with pre-adolescent girls,” Perry said.

Now he is being called to Eldorado to help children sort out what they experienced behind the white walls of the compound.

“They’re taught industry, they’re taught hard work, they’re taught responsibility for community,” said Perry. “But they also had a belief system that groomed young girls into being the sexual property of older men and that's abusive.”

Placing children into shelters and foster homes outside the compound walls will be a challenge.

“They're different,” Perry noted. “From their clothes, to their beliefs, to their distrust of strangers.”

Perry said too that it is highly likely they were given instructions to (1) not be open, (2)  to actively deceive and (3) to give multiple stories.

And from what we are hearing some of that is going on. Add to that the tension of the situation and Dr. Perry, along with the other care providers, have their work cut out for them.
