Incoming president: TSU will be 'tall order'
06:18 PM CST on Monday, January 14, 2008
Getting Texas Southern University’s financial house in order is the first order of business for new president John Rudley.
On Monday, Rudley explained it's time for crisis management at TSU. That means restoring fiscal credibility, highlighting academic programs and making sure
TSU can provide a prepared workforce for Houston.
As for the problems the university has faced, including allegations of theft by former president Priscilla Slade, Rudley was looking more ahead than back.
“Once in a while, you're faced with an opportunity to do some great things. So, I see Texas Southern as a tall order, but here's an opportunity for me to add value to Texas Southern University,” Rudley said.
Rudley also said he and the TSU board of regents will revisit the open admissions policy at the university as well as the cost of tuition.
