Neighbors of a man shot to death Tuesday night said he was a rising rap star.

The shooting happened around 11 p.m. at the Alexan at Gulf Point apartment complex, located on Sabo.

Residents said they heard three gunshots following a fight between the victim and the man suspected of shooting him. When police arrived, the victim was already dead, just outside of his apartment.

"I was in my apartment, but I have the windows open and heard three really loud bangs," neighbor Linda Davenport said. "My cat started growling; I knew there was something wrong."

HPD homicide detectives are trying to confirm if the victim was a member of a local rap group.

Witnesses said a black, four-door, late-model vehicle was seen leaving the scene. It had custom wheels and a heavy tint; it was possibly a Volvo. Police said it's unknown if it was involved in the incident.
