Across the street from Beckendorf Junior High is a group of frustrated parents.

They are parents who are fighting a rezoning proposal that they say is kicking their kids out of their own neighborhood.

“We are the only section that’s going to be sent out of the sections in the Cinco Ranch, Seven Meadows, Grand Lakes area like 6 miles away,” said Kim a parent.

The problem is that their neighborhood school, Beckendorf Junior High, is overcrowded.

The solution is an option that would create a new attendance boundary that would send their students a few miles away to a brand school starting next year.

But would it be for good?

“Once they get us to the other school, we would not, they will not let us back into the community schools,” said Tracy Hoffman who is a parent.

This rezoning is an option drawn up by a committee of residents appointed by school administrators.

“It’s not easy, because every scenario has it’s pros and cons. (We need to) come up with what you think is going to best for the long term,” said Steven Stanford with Katy ISD.

But instead of option B parents prefer option E.

It would keep their kids in Beckendorf and closer to home.

When the new junior high opens next year, no matter what option is chosen, some students will have to change schools. And that invariably means, some parents just won’t be happy.

A public hearing is set for Wednesday. Frustrated parents say they hope to be heard then.
