A gas leak in Pasadena has prompted officials at an elementary and high school to issue a shelter-in-place order.

KHOU - TV

District officials issued the order at Mae Smythe Elementary and Sam Rayburn High School as a precaution.

The action came after a backhoe reportedly ruptured a line on Burke and Witchita.

Smythe Elementary is located on 2202 Pasadena Blvd.

Sam Rayburn High is on 2121 Cherrybrook.

In addition to students being kept in their classrooms, area streets have also been closed off.

Crews are working to fix the problem.
