British bankers to plead guilty to Enron-related charges

08:40 AM CST on Wednesday, November 28, 2007

Associated Press

HOUSTON -- The Houston Chronicle is reporting that three British bankers set to go to trial in January on Enron-related fraud charges have agreed to plead guilty in the case.

The men are David Bermingham, Giles Darby and Gary Mulgrew.

The newspaper says the three are set to change their pleas from innocent to guilty during a hearing tomorrow in Houston federal court.

They each faced seven counts of wire fraud for allegedly colluding with former Enron chief financial officer Andrew Fastow in a secret financial scam in 2000.

It was unclear whether the three men—dubbed the “NatWest Three”—would admit to one or more of the seven wire fraud counts pending against them.
