A body is found | Seeking justice for Baby Grace | Who is Baby Grace?

As investigators continue to try to solve the mystery of Baby Grace, one woman is asking to adopt the remains of the little girl found in a box on an unmanned island.

Across the nation and certainly across Galveston County, Marianne Sefcik is another example of the outpouring of grief for a child none of these people ever met.

She showed us the velvet sleeves, gold sequins, lace and the rose sash.

"This is the little dress, she will look like a little princess,” said Sefcik said.

HOW TO HELP

Anyone with information about Baby Grace or her death may call the sheriff’s office at 409-766-2222, the agency’s tip line at 866-248-8477 or any Crime Stoppers organization. A Web site, www.baby-grace.org, has also been established.

BABY GRACE

Baby Grace is described as 32 to 35 inches tall and 25 to 30 pounds. She has waist-long, wavy blonde or light brown hair and was wearing a Target-brand pink, flowing skirt, a pink or red shirt and white light-up tennis shoes with purple flowers on them.

It is a dress Baby Grace might have worn on a Sunday. One Marianne wants to be the final one the little girl wears.

She got the dress, and with the blessing of investigators, has started planning Baby Grace's funeral.

She even offered to be her symbolic grandmother. So she's not buried without family weeping over her grave.

"People will know that she has someone out there that loved her and cared for here you know,” said Sefcik.

But her other adopted family, includes the total strangers who erected a cross on the island where she was found.

And her family of investigators, now working more than 250 leads, fielding thousands of phone calls, and trying to rule out more than two dozen missing children cases in this country and abroad that match Baby Grace’s age, her hair color, her tiny size.

So as investigators continue to look for that family - through tips from aunts, uncles, teachers, or daycare workers who might be worried about a child they haven't seen in a while; Marianne Sefcik plans to be Baby Grace's family -- for now.

“God will judge all of us one day,” she said.

Judge whomever threw her away. And judge the residents of Galveston County as they adopt Baby Grace as their own.
