06:30 AM CDT on Tuesday, October 9, 2007
Tuesday morning, students from Tidwell elementary in the North Forest ISD will start classes at Hilliard. A mold problem forced Tidwell to shutdown without warning last week.
And, if a picture paints a thousand words photos obtained by 11 News speak volumes of the troubles at Tidwell. It appears the mold was at kids’ fingertips and over their heads.
Mold on library bookshelves and library books. The pictures show mold on pipes in the corridors and in classrooms.
All Seasons Environmental report for NFISD.
Mold was found on walls, air conditioning ducts, bookshelves and concession areas of the school.
In one photo, mold has spread across stored books and paper. There was even mold in the concessions room.
Last week, 11 News was there as parents raced to pick up their kids when mold problems closed Tidwell down. Now, with the photos we are getting our first glimpse of what those problems looked like.
The pictures were attached to the actual mold report that was sent to North Forest ISD.
In the temporary buildings, wood rot and mold prompted experts to recommend closing them until they can be fixed or removed. The report stated these buildings were not suitable for children or teachers.
