Protesters decry treatment of illegal immigrants

04:33 PM CDT on Saturday, August 4, 2007

KHOU.com staff report

Protesters demanding better treatment for immigrants once again demonstrated at a north Houston holding facility Saturday.

The group met in front of the facility run by Corrections Corporation of America.

The protesters claim the private security company treats immigrants – including young kids – inhumanely.

Back in June, two protesters temporarily shut down the facility by chaining themselves to the gate.

“I think the real criminals are the ones involved in this massive kidnapping and abuse of human rights,” a demonstrator said.

The two protesters who chained themselves to the gate were originally charged with felonies, but a grand jury later dropped the charges.
